This is a points-based visa category that lets the invited applicants with skills to live and work in Australia on temporarily (with pathway to permanent) or directly on permanent basis depending upon the type of visa eligibility.
Applicants are selected on the points score achieved based on their skills, attributes including English language ability, qualification, work experience etc. and suitability for employment.
Points-based skilled migration visas are subject to points test and selection from EOI - SkillSelect and a successful state nomination (if applicable).

Other factors such as points for spouse skills, credentialled community language etc.
The Skilled migrant category uses the SkillSelect to invite the successful applicants based on their points score. EOI is stored in SkillSelect and is valid for 2 years. Invitations are issued by the SkillSelect system to the highest ranking EOIs, subject to occupation ceilings. An EOI is not a visa application.
